Minister Rajapaksa inspects Katunayake Expressway to be opened in August

[Submitted on March 18, 2013] Arrangements are being made to open next August the 26 kilometre-long Katunayake - Kelaniya Expressway built at a cost of 291 million US dollars. The Ports and Highways Ministry commenced the construction of the express way in 2009 under the direction of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Divi Neguma to uplift 700,000 families

[Submitted on March 17, 2013] Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa said last week that his ministry’s objective is to make Sri Lanka free of poverty by 2016 through uplifting the economic levels of 700,000 families selected from all over the country under the Divi Neguma programme. Fifty poor families from each of the 14008 grama seva divisions in the island will be selected for the purpose.

Minister Rajapaksa scoffs at Ranil’s offer

One was to end the war and restore peace strengthening the heart and morale of the soldier by calling him a hero and the other was to strengthen the national economy by strengthening the heart and mind of expatriate workers who brought almost 100 percent of the foreign exchange earned by the country by giving them a sense of pride by calling them Rata Viruvo, said Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
