Steps will be taken to plant 4 million of coconut saplings under the Divi Naguma

Hon. Basil Rajpaksa, Minister of Economic development declared that steps will be taken to plant 4 million of coconut saplings Island wide under the Divi Naguma National Programme.
Minister mentioned that approximately 2 million coconut saplings were distributed island wide through Divi naguma programme in 2011.
Minister expressed these views at a discussion held at the Ministry of Economic Development for making aware all district planning directors on implementation process of Divi Naguma National Programme for 2012.
Accordingly, steps were taken to distribute two coconut saplings for each selected household units for Divi Naguma National Programme in Divisional Secretariats islandwide in 2011 and the number of coconut plantations which has newly added to the country equals to the amount of 30,000 acres.
While 4 million of coconut saplings are proposed to be planted under the Divi Naguma national programme for 2012, arrangements of the nurseries of coconut saplings has been commenced, declared the Ministry of coconut Development and Janatha Estate Development.
The main objective of this programme is to create a home garden by planting the crops with economic value such as tea, coconut and rubber up to the extent of 2.5 acres under the Divi Naguma national programme in 2012.
These activities will be carried out under the supervision of Hon. Jagath Pushpakumara, Minister of coconut Development and Janatha Estate Development and Mr. Anura Siriwardhana, Secretary to the Ministry.
