Roads and Bridges
Rs. 94.62 Mn. has been allocated for the rehabilitation of 117.9km of main roads and byroads. Currently, work at a cost of Rs. 61.40 Mn. has been completed.
A sum of Rs. 25.6 Mn. has been invested for the rehabilitation of Nedunkerny Water Supply Scheme. Water supply projects are underway in seven rural areas.
A sum of Rs. 50 Mn. has been invested in the Mamaduwa Irrigation Scheme, which will irrigate 267ha and benefit 285 families. Approximately 98% of the scheme has been completed at a cost of Rs. 47.5 Mn. Nampankulam Irrigation Scheme costing Rs. 30 Mn. irrigates 104 ha benefiting 49 families. Pavatkulam Scheme will also begin this year. Rs. 42 Mn. has been spent on these schemes. In addition, Rs. 23 Mn. has been reserved to renovate small and medium tanks.
In this sector; Agrarian Service Centres, Fertiliser Stores and the Agriculture Inspectors quarters in Kanagarayakulam have been renovated.
Rs. 104.57 Mn. was allocated for livelihood development activities and Rs. 39.99 Mn. has been spent up to now.
Mine clearance has been completed in 34,057 sqm of 220 villages in 70 GN divisions. Demining will be carried out in 37,426.158 sqm of 226 villages in of 72 GN Divisions.
29,314 persons of 8,679 families in 182 villages in 72 GN divisions have been resettled. Eight thousand resettled families were provided with 64,000 cement bags and 6,478 families were provided with 77,736 Roofing Sheets. Agricultural equipments were provided to 3,430 families. Payment of Rs. 25,000 or above was given to each of the 4,663 resettled families. And 4,025 permanent and 726 transitional shelters were provided and 8,335 families were provided with dry rations.
Rs. 41.24 Mn. has been invested to provide school buildings, furniture, stationery and other materials through 29 projects. Rs. 10.3 Mn. worth of work has been completed.
Plans have been made to reconstruct 7000 houses. 1,250 houses will be repaired and 200 cluster houses will be built with assistance from India. The construction of 695 permanent houses and 595 transitional houses has been approved.
A sum of Rs. 4.27 Mn. was invested to construct a building a Prosthesis Centre at Vavuniya General Hospital.
